We never know how high we are Till we are called to rise; And then, if we are true to plan, Our statures touch the skies. by Emily Dickinson

Quote of the Day featuring Emily Dickinson

We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise;
And then, if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies.

- Emily Dickinson

Today’s Practice

If a young person in your life is having a hard time or a difficult day, you can help them “reframe” their experience by asking the following questions:

  • What is going well right now?
  • How would you like to feel each day?
  • What person in your life could you count on to help you?

These questions can help the young person tap into their personal power when feeling overwhelmed, anxious or scared; knowing that within each, with the support of others, they can find moments of calm and hope for the future.

Emily Dickinson

Today’s quote is from Emily Dickinson’s poem “We never know how high we are”. Although now considered to be one of America’s greatest and most original poets of all time, she was not publicly recognized during her lifetime. Emily Dickinson died in Amherst, MA in 1886, and the first volume of her work was published posthumously in 1890.
