the key to building a true belonging practice is maintaining our belief in inextricable human connection. That connection – the spirit that flows between us and every other human in the world – is not something that can be broken; however, our belief in the connection is constantly tested and repeatedly severed. - Brené Brown

Today’s Practice:

Focused listening is an authentic way to build connections with others in your family. Make listening the core practice whenever your family is working on something together. You can model listening as a way to teach it by doing the following:

  • Face your child when they are speaking
  • Remove all distractions
  • Do not interrupt (practice patience)
  • Ask questions to learn more and try to avoid asking “why”
  • Summarize back what your child said
