14 May Daily Practice Inspired by Bill Plotkin
The soul is like an acorn. Just as the acorn gives instruction to the oak about how to grow and what to become, the human soul . . . carries an image or a vision that shows us how to grow what gift we carry for others, the nature of our true life.

Today’s Practice:
Ask your children if they know what the word legacy means. Then add to the conversation using the following talking points:
- A legacy is something that a person is remembered by. When we hear that person’s name, we think of his or her legacy, or when we experience the legacy, we think of that person. The things we think or like about someone can be his or her legacy.
- A legacy can be something you can touch, like a ring, a shell, a stone, or other object that someone special gave you; or something you can’t touch, like memories, feelings, or a new way of thinking about something. Sometimes a legacy can be something that benefits many people, like a new kind of medicine, a piece of music, or a work of art.
- But the greatest legacy we can leave might be treating others with honor and respect.
Ask your children to name people (famous or from their family) who have a legacy. Then ask them to think about what kind of legacy they can contribute to the family, their school or community. Ask them to complete the following sentence stem:
- When people think of me, they will say…
