26 Jun Daily Practice Inspired by May Sarton
Now I become myself. It’s taken
Time, many years and places;
I have been dissolved and shaken,
Worn other people’s faces….- May Sarton
Today’s Practice:
In the book The Color Purple, by Alice Walker, the character Celie learns how to embrace beauty in the world once she learns that she herself is beautiful; something she had never felt before. As she discovered her inner beauty, Celie was able to project that beauty out to others and to celebrate it, without fear of rejection.
The ending of a school year (or a school career), is an invitation to celebrate that each ending brings new beginnings. It is a time to let one’s heart “sing” with the joy of possibility. This way of thinking provides the ingredients for hope and optimism for each of us as we move through the world meeting new people, traveling to new places, and experiencing new things.
Have a wonderful and safe summer. Thank you for reading these quotes and practices. I hope they have brought you and your family some comfort, hope, and reflection during these times.
